A second preemptive episode with you host, Derek Myers running you through his influential songs from age 10, 18 and NOW. From age 10, we have a listen to AcDc's Jailbreak (1976). This song awoke Derek to the possibilities of storytelling in a song AND clip. Storytelling that may not necessarily have to have a happy ending or be about lovin'.
Hunters and Collectors' Betty's Worry (or The Slab) (1984) was released at age 18 and co-incided with a period of getting cars and driving into town to see gigs whenever possible. The raw passion of Mark Seymour kinda blew his mind, and the combination of punk and tight horns was another awakening point in Derek's musical appreciation.
Saint Jude's St. Clare. (2015) from the album Saint Jude III proved that it is never too late to be totally mesmerised by a song. Taken to a trance like state and gush about it like a teenage fan-boy. Kinda refreshing at 50.
Next episode will be with a guest running us through their influences.
